Yes I did. I went to a partially sighted school for eighteen months when I was eleven, then left as my sigh had deteriorated too much for them to be able to teach me and then I went to a school for the blind until I was seventeen. The two schools were both boarding schools but my parents didn’t want me to board so took me to them every day, thirty or forty miles, and then my mum stayed in our caravanette during the day before bringing me back home. Then I went to a college for the blind when I was seventeen and did business studies. Then I did some work experience near my home and then when I moved to Wales I need more qualifications and the job centre suggested I go to the sight college. I didn’t think this would be possible but they did everything in their ability to help me and I spent four very happy years there doing business studies, massage and other therapies which I really enjoyed. It was quite a journey as the college was fifty miles from my home and I had a complicated journey to get to it on different busses but the buss drivers were really helpful and I hardly ever got left behind anywhere. Then I trained with the Red Cross to do hand and arm massage which I did to several different groups in our area for seventeen years until the groups closed. The red cross has stopped the massage altogether which is a great shame as I really enjoyed giving it and the clients all enjoyed receiving it. However, I have kept in touch with many of the friends I made with the groups and now I spend my time reading, listening to music, e-mailing, helping mum in the garden and house, and when we are allowed out going to the gym with my pa and helping my mum with a local regular coffee morning in our village. Love emma

That makes it easier to read then. Can you read latin in braille as surely you would need other contractions for it, wouldn’t you? Love emma

I reckon it was quite a good time I had at school. The school for the blind was very old fashioned but they did their best and I got a whole range of exams at 16. I didn’t like going to the college for the blind as I had to board and it was a long way from home. I could only get home at half term and I really hated it. It was before mobile phones and we couldn’t ring home very much. Still I guess it proved that I could manage on my own and I used to go about in the town with my cane. Love emma

Yes I did. I went to a partially sighted school for eighteen months when I was eleven, then left as my sigh had deteriorated too much for them to be able to teach me and then I went to a school for the blind until I was seventeen. Then I went to a college for the blind when I was seventeen and did business studies. Love emma

Well boys did gardening and computer studies and girls did cooking. Also they didn’t have a biology teacher so I didn’t get very good marks in. May science exam but I did get. The. Top grade in maths as they managed to make. The exams in. A tactile form for me. It was very difficult as the country was changing from one system to another at the time and this made it even more difficult for blind. People as there weren’t the books to do the work. Also we had to. Do course work that we had to do in braille and then type up on ordinary typewriters as there weren’t any talking word processors then and of course I couldn’t check my work. Still I still got a range of good exam grades that I’m very pleased with. Also I learnt why biology at the sighted college where I learnt my massage and armoatheaphy.

Love emma
